Thinking about academics and private sector practitioners whose work depends on doing fieldwork, c-19 introduces another layer of budgeting and planning: to keep self & interviewees/participants safe. IRB (institutional reveiw boards) will have to approve research being proposed not only for risk to human subjects as before, but also with reference to c19. And grant funders will need to see a research plan that addresses c19 risks, and which lists local medical conditions in the event of crisis: where to go, who to contact, (foreign language) specialist vocabulary to have learned, in the case of overseas fieldwork engagement.
