Hypercoherence is a term I heard in college in the 1980s that means that a species and its surrounding ecosystem are so uniform and precisely in tune with each other that any harm, threat, or danger can transmit rapidly across the whole. By contrast, diversity introduces barriers to free-flow. This same phenomena seems to apply to things like currencies (Euro makes trade frictionless, but also disruptions transmit rapidly), language and culture (having one worldview, economic benchmark, standards for exchanging ideas is convenient, but by the same token can exclude alternate viewpoints and logics), and ecosystems. So perhaps globalism is a trojan horse: looks great on the outside, but filled with dangers. Parochialism is not the solution, but rather a hybrid: stimulate a cacophony of diverse systems and standard *as well as* foster vigorous interchange across and between societies, languages, organizational systems.
